What is the name of the process of the hydrologic cycle that transfers water vapor to the atmosphere from plants?

List 2 locations of continental ice sheets found on the Earth today.

What is the name of the process of the hydrologic through which water flows in rivers?

Explanation / Answer

1. The largest reservoir in the hydrologic cycle by far is the oceans, which hold about 97% of Earth’s water.

2. The remaining 3% of the total earth's water is the freshwater .As we know how important is freshwater to our survival, but about 78% of that is stored in ice in Antarctica and Greenland.

So, the largest reservoir of fresh water in the hydrologic cycle is the ice.

3. 21% of freshwater found on Earth is groundwater, which is stored in sediments and rocks below the surface of Earth.

So,largest accessible reservoir of fresh water in the hydrologic cycle is the grounwater.

4.The process is called precipitation ,it occurs when water falls from the sky, either as ice or liquid water . Precipitation falling onto the ground is either absorbed into the ground and this is called as infiltration or it becomes surface runoff. Water which falls can be stored temporarily in various resevoirs, like it can be saved above ground in lakes, streams, glaciers, etc., or it can also be saved below ground as groundwater.

5.Evaporation is the process by which liquid water is transformed into water vapor, a gas which is then send into the atmosphere. The air has the property to hold a certain amount of water vapor which depends on its temperature and pressure. Hot air can hold more water vapor than cold air. The main driving force behind evaporation is the heat from the sun.

6. Transpiration is the process of the hydrologic cycle that transfers water vapor intto the atmosphere from plants.water can also be turned to water vapor through the leaves of plants and the process is called the transpiration
