The dose of this new drug must be gradually increased up to the standard dose (200 mg daily) as follows: 25 mg daily in week 1 50 mg (given as two 25 mg tablets) daily in week 2; 100 mg daily in week 3; 200 mg (given as two 100 mg tablets) daily in week 4 and all following weeks. Describe how the placebo should be constructed and given in order to maintain the blinding.

Explanation / Answer

To maintain the double blinding effect the patient and the investigator will not know which group is getting what drug or placebo. So to maintain the placebo effect similar looking placebo pills needs to be given to the placebo group.

25(1week)to 50 (2 ND week) to 100(3rd week) to 200 MG (4th week) this step by step increase in the dose needs to be maintained in placebo consumption also.
