Marriage is the formal union of two persons in which they make their relationship public, official, and permanent. Definition of marriage is varied in different cultures and religions, but is principally an institution in which relationship between two people is acknowledged and sanctioned.

During the course of marriage personalities change, things get tough and different, which make or break relations.

Every relationships go through ups and downs. Long-lasting mutually gratifying relationship depends on selecting an ideal mate. In 1958, William Schutz identified three universal human needs, which includes inclusion, affection, and control. The extent to which an individual experiences these needs varies from person to person. Preferences and expectations form the basis of choosing an ideal mate. Different marriages reflect different interpersonal needs. What works for one couple may not work for another. Thus, knowing yourself as well as your partner is very important in mate selection. Compatibility in interpersonal needs requires partners to adapt, adjust, and accommodate each other. Thus, a shared vision of interpersonal life is what is required for a long-lasting relation.

Physical appearance is an important aspect of marriage. Your partner feels attracted to you only when you look good. Physical appearance is an empathetic way to draw your partner towards you. But it does not need to take full priority since there are other aspects too for a relationship to work. Appearance of a person matters only in the initial years of a relationship. Later, partners look for personal characteristics and shared interests for the relationship to evolve.
