Question

In deciduous forests there are five different vertical zones. From top to bottom, the first zone is the Tree Stratum zone. The Tree Stratum zone contains such trees as oak, beech, and maple, This zone's height ranges between 60 and 100 feet. The small tree and sapling zone is the second zone. This zone has young and short trees. The third zone is called the shrub zone. The Herb zone is the fourth zone. It contains short, non-woody plants. The final zone is the Ground zone which contains lichen, club mosses, and true mosses. When large trees are felled either by disease, storm, or fire, grasses and other non-woody plants are first to appear in the newly disturbed area. These are soon followed by woody shrubs sne such as rhododendrums. Species that do well in full sun, such as and herb birch are the first trees to re-colonize the area. As these trees mature they shade the forest floor, making it difficult for their own young and shrubs to grow. Shade-loving species such as maple and beech find themselves at a competitive advantage, and the species composition of the forest slowly shifts. Over time, the older sun- loving trees die out as they are overgrown and shaded by the shade-tolerant species. The mature forest floor is also populated by shade tolerant plants such as ferns. What type of succession occurs following such a tree falling? (3) Organism: Trait 1: Trait 2: each of inhibition, facilitation, and tolerance described in the example above by Identify one example listing the two species interacting and describing how the i (ie who is doing what to whom). (6) Facilitation: interaction represents this type of interaction Inhibition Tolerance

Explanation / Answer

1.the organisms belonging to fifth vertical zones like mosses and lichens have come under an r-selection category.

the two major traits that these organisms should have are " high growth rate" and "should produce many offsprings".

in unfavorable conditions, r- selection prevails because of the capacity to repeat rapidly. There is little favorable position in adjustments that allow effective rivalry with different living beings, in light of the fact that the earth is probably going to change once more. Among the qualities that are thought to describe r- selection are high fecundity, little body measure, early development beginning, short age time, and the capacity to scatter posterity widely.

2. the organisms belonging to first vertical zones like maple trees, oak trees, and other bigger trees have come under a k-selection category.

the two major traits that these organisms should have are " large body size, long life expectancy, and the production of limited offspring".

K-selection species show characteristics related with living at densities near conveying limit and normally are solid rivals in such swarmed specialties that put all the more vigorously in less posterity, every one of which has a generally high likelihood of getting by to adulthood (i.e., low r, high K). In logical writing, r-selection species are at times alluded to as "shrewd" though K-selection species are portrayed as "equilibrium".

3. inhibition: grasses and other woody plants

tolerance: oak trees and maple tress
