(3pts) 0) Please describe how the citizens of Apo Island were able to increase the yields of their fishing while at the same time improving their standard of living. (6 pts)

Explanation / Answer

17. Carrying capacity depends on population resource consumption because it is the maximum population size that the environment can sustain indefinitely, given the food, habitat, water and other necessities available. Every resource is limited so as carrying capacity.

18.1. Parasitism: Dodder(in plants), mosquitoes, lice(in animals).

2. Mutualism: lichen(fungi and algae), oxpecker and zebra.

3. Intraspecific competition: competition in between same species for food, mate and shelter like in between zebras.

19. Animals(fish) that eat grass will have more DDT than the grass because fish eats more such grass sprayed by DDT as food so it gets accumulated in the body of fish and this kind of affected fishes when eaten bother animals then their is more accumulation of DDT in its body.

20. In Apo island, people made marine reserve by protecting coral reefs for several years. They developed marine sanctuary(no fishing zone) because fishes reduced there due to the destructive method of fishing. Fishing was only allowed by the apo islanders and in the fishing zone only.
