If you ask people when they think that brain development ends most will respond by age three. Though there is a great deal of brain development going on during this time it is by no means done at age three. Recent research has suggested that there is an important surge in brain development that coincides with puberty. The teenage years are full of mood swings, episodes of rage, narcissism, insolence, defiance of authority, etc. These behaviors may in part be due to the brain development taking place at this time. Several areas of the brain are undergoing changes at this time. These areas include the limbic system and the prefrontal cortex. Do some research and discuss how the changes in these areas of the brain may correlate too many of the stereotypical "teenage behaviors" mentioned above. How should parents and teachers deal with these biologically based behavior problems? Why is it of critical importance to educate teens on the problems associated with sex, smoking, alcohol consumption, and drug use at this time?

Explanation / Answer

The thinking and behaviour of a child changes as it become teenager because their brain grow and change and these changes affect their behaviour.

bBrain development is 90- 95perc completed at the age of 13- -14 but the brain remodeling happens during adolescence.

Adolescence is a time of significant developments and growth inside the teenage brain.

The main change is that unused connection in the thinking and processing of your child's brain are Presumed away . simultaneously other connection are strengthened .This is the brains way of becoming more efficient based on the use of or lose it part. This pruning process starts in the back side of the brain , the prefrontal cortex is remodelled last. The prefrontal cortex is decision making part of brain , responsible for your child's ability to plan and think about the consequences of actions ,solve problem and control impulses. The change in this part of brain continuees into early adulthood.

Because the prefrontal cortex is still developing teenageright rely on a part of brain amygdala to make decisions and solve problems more .This region is associated with emotions impulses, aggression and instinctive behaviour.

We must have noticed that sometime our child thinking and behaviour seems quite mature but other times they seems to behave or think illogical, impulsive or emotional ways.

The back to fromf development of brain explain these shifts and changes teenagers are working with brain that are still under construction.

Parents and teachers should understand this behaviour and do these which could guide and influence their child to build a healthy brain. Like by encouraging positive behaviour, promoting good thinking skills ,helping your child get lots of sleep, let your child take some healthy risks, let them find some new creative and expressive outlet, offer frequent praise and positive reward for desired behaviour, talk with your child about their developing brain.

Teenagers need honest education about sex and drug usage ,because during adolescence their mind and body undergo lot of changes we have discussed above , one of them is emotional changes they don't understand what's happening with their body and the reason for their behaviour , the feeling of Love and an attraction for opposite sex also develop, the teacher and parents should also understand these changes make their child aware with it .

Another most bad habit which sometimes a teenage development under the influence of peer pressure or due to some personal issue or depression , during adolescence the feeling of self confidence and trying new things usually happens with teenagers in order to get some excitement in their life they get trapped in this drug addiction .So educating child about drugs is also should be the responsibility of parents and teachers.
