The New Deal was a series of programs which was enacted in United Sates between 1933 and 1938. Few of the programs were enacted later. New deal includes the laws passed by Congress as well as the orders of the President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The New Deal Programs were designed to eliminate the Great Depression by focussing on relief, recovery and reform. The Breat Depression is nothing but the period of economic recession in United States.
The early New Deal Programs focused on recovery by enacting few laws like Emergency Banking Act. The New Deal Programs focused on Agricultural Adjustment Act, National Industrial Recovery, etc. The New Deal changed the relationship between the government and the people, and between the president and the Congress. The American people began to want and expect more from their government. Also, the expectation increased by the power of the president in relation to Congress. The effected the Congress very much.
The New Deal was a failure because it did not protect the American people completely. It was only successful in short-term relief of people. There was a new recession, the 'Roosevelt recession' in 1937. Many of the jobs created by New Deal was temporary and it did not eliminate unemployment completely. It was the most costly government program in American history. Few programs also wasted money without doing any good for the people.
