Explanation / Answer

2. A1C is the glycated hemoglobin and gives the average sugar level in the body for the past few weeks or months. It is much more stable value when compared to fasting blood sugar and fasting is not required. It is a much more reliable data. Advantage over fasting blood sugar is that you need not do the test with fasting, values are not affected by stress or illness and it is more reliable.

3. Normal level of A1C is 5.7 %. Normal levels of fasting blood sugar is between 70-99 mg/dl and two hours after meals the normal levels are less than 140 mg/dl.

4. Major advantage- effective in treatment of type 2 diabetes regardless of insulin therapy and works independently. There is low risk of hypoglycemia, cause weight loss and lower systolic blood pressure.

Disadvantages may be mycotic infections, hyperkalemia, increase LDL cholesterol and are very pricey.
