The table shows the biochemical pathway of arginine production and growth of Neurespora under various conditions Omithine Chruline Arginine Strain 4105 3442 6703 addition added added adoed 255 300 332 25 427 43.8 204 22.0 2.3 0.0 0.0 Double mtont 00 00 0022 and minimal medium s Wild type Neurospora was treated with X-rays to induce heritable mutations, Treated Neurspora was grown on minimal medium Cno addition" in the table) that generates arginine, without arginine production, Neurospora cannot grow Ceni dering the biochemical pathway of arginine production, what explanation could account for the abiity of-erain·3410s and 33442 but the inabilty or strain 3670) to 'ew-pmth on opplemented with nimal medim * The minimal medium was coetaminated with low levels of onithine The minimal medium was contaminated with low levels of the precursor The minimal medium was contaminated with arginine The minimal medium was contaminated with low levels of citrule Another metabolic pathway provided low levels of arginneExplanation / Answer
The minimal media should contain low levels of citrulline. Precursor produces orinithine in presence of enzyme A , Ornithine produces citrulline in presence of B , Citrulline produces Arginine in presence of C . So, in the presence of citrulline strain 1 and 2 produces Arginine. Strain 1 is has no defects in Enzyme B and C and hence Arginine is produced. Strain 2 is defective in enzyme B and hence when cirulline is added it present it produces Arginine. Eventhough ornithinine is added it cannot produce citrulline as tehre is defective enzyme B. Strain 3 , is defcetive in both B and C and hence even in the presence of citrulline it cannot produce Arginine. Strain 4 is a double mutant and it is defective in B and C and hence cannot produce Arginine even in presence of citrulline. So, the minimal media is contaminated with citrulline.
