What antibiotic was the most effective against S.aureus? E. coli? 2. Using your textbook, BRIEFLY state the method of action for one of the antibiotics you tested (your choice). 3. Can you tell from the way you performed this test if the antibiotic is bacteriostatic or bacteriocidal? Explain. 4. W hat other factors, besides effectiveness, are considered before prescribing an antibiotic to a person? negative organism; natural penicillin or tetracycline? Why? day, is it necessary to test the antimicrobial susceptibility of each our textbook, which antibiotic is more effective against a Gram 5. Using y atory isolates S. aureus from five patients on the same 6. If the labor isolate? Why?Explanation / Answer
Questions 1 and 3 can be answered only if the "textbook" or the experiment results are available to me to read.
2. Penicillin is a beta lactam group of drug. It inhibits the cell wall synthesis by blocking the transpeptidase enzyme. Transpeptidase enzyme activity is essential for the cross linking of NAM and NAG chains in the petidoglycan layers of the cell wall.
4. The antibiotic must have least side effects and should not alter normal flora of the human body.
5. Tetracyclines are more effective against gram negative bacteria compared to penicillins. Penicillins act on cell wall of bacteria, particularly the transpeptidase enzyme.Gram negative bacterial cell wall differs from gram positive bacteria and it has no effect with penicillin.
6. Yes, it is madatory to test every isolate from every patient. Because, not everyone is infected by the same strain of bacteria. Each person may get infected with a different strain from a different source.
