Question

Neural Crest Cells. Some of the early work examining the mechanism of neural crest cell migration used transplantation of neural crest cells isolated from quail embryos into chick embryos. Then scientists could follow the fates of the quail cells in the chick embryo. You perform such a transplant with "early" trunk neural crest cells that have been modified such that they do not express the EphB3 protein. Using what you know about neural crest cell migration, predict how the migration of these cells would be different from normal, wild-type neural crest cells and what the effect would be on the organization of the dorsal

Explanation / Answer

First lets understand what neural crest cells are?

During the zygote cell division , the cells will start differentiating into various group of cells with specific functions. During embriogenesis the strip of cells arising from ectodermal region near the margin of the neural tube. These cells migrate to various parts and differentiate into various system or regions in the embryo.Ex: Peripheral nervous system, adrenal glands , face cartilage, pigment cells in the skin, teeth, garstrointestinal tract.

These cells are of prime importance due to migration activity. C3a complementary proteins are responsible for the migration activity. The ephrin protein B are responsible for guiding the migratory proteins.
