Explanation / Answer

Please find the asnwers below:

Answer 1: Congestive heart failure is a progressive deleterious cardiac disease in which the cardiac muscles are unable to pump the blood efficiently to the body and hence causes deprivation of oxygen, nutrients and fluids in the whole body. This promotes retention of fluids at the kidneys and its consequent accumulation near the joints, such as ankles and knee thus causing swelling.

Answer 2: Heart murmur is a sound produced due to failure of proper closing of the mitral valve located between the left ventricle and the auricle, thus causing improper flow of blood.

Answer 3: Calcium channel blockers such as verapamil cause immediate blocking of the voltage gated calcium channels in the myocardium thus decreasing their excitability. This causes the myocardium to relax and thus reduced beat rate and hence, blood pressure.

Answer 4: Hyperventilation before swimming decreases the total oxygen content in the body. Since a person is supposed to hold breath while swimming, Cecil might not be able to do so since she was already deprived of oxygen, hence felt like drowning.
