Imagine that a natural disaster came through your ecosystem and destroyed your most densely populated species, leaving very few, if any, survivors. a. What has happened to your species diversity? b. Describe how this might affect your overall ecosysterm Would sampling ten Study Sites have changed your original outcome? Why or why not? 7. Do you think the people that wrote this activity randomly assigned letters to organ- isms, or do you think there was some sort of pattern? How do you think the authors decided which letter would represent which organism?Explanation / Answer
c) The ecosystem is not described in the question. So I am referring to the ecosystem we have now in the world. We have high species diversity both in the land and water. All the animals and plants are linked well in the food web and there is a balance in it.
6 a) If a natural calamity kills the densely populated species in the ecosystem then the balance will be affected. All dependent organisms of that particular species will be affected and their numbers will start dwindling. The species diversity will be lost and there is a fight for survival.
b) The overall ecosystem is affected and a variety of species will be extinct. If herbivore numbers are highly reduced the carnivores won't have much food left and slowly they will die too.
7. Sampling 10 study sites will help in reaching a conclusion. We will be able to study the trend in the loss of species diversity. Try to avoid errors as much as possible.
