Question
Use the mutations interactive to determine which of the following are silent mutations. The adenine of the start codon is position +1. an A nucleotide is inserted at position +2 in the sense strand a substitution of a G nucleotide at position +9 in the antisense strand a single nucleotide deletion at position +12 in the antisense strand a transition at position +6 in the sense strand a transversion of A in the histidine codon of the antisense strand a subsitution from G to T in the arginine codon of the antisense stand ? Previous Give Up & View Solution O Check Answer NextExplanation / Answer
Silent mutation is one in which even if one nucleotide changes the aminoacid doesnot change . 'A' nucleotide inserted at position 2 changes the aminoacid sequence and hence it is not silent mutation. The transition and transversion at respective positions of histidine and arginine changes the aminoacid and hence these are also not silent mutation. Option b, c and d if it doesnot change aminoacid to be produced, then these are called silent mutation.
