Question
14) Instead of carrying out a normal infection of cells, you artificially introduce the purified RNA genome of HIV (only RNA, no viral proteins) into a human helper T cell. You are told that the viral RNA cannot function directly as a mRNA but, instead, needs to be reverse transcribed and integrated into the host genome first. You would predict that A) New HIV virus particles would be produced B) No new HIV virus particles would be produced Biology side note: the artificial introduction of pure DNA or RNA into mammalian cells uses a technique called transfection, while the artificial introduction of pure DNA or RNA into bacterial or yeast cells usesa technique called transformation.Explanation / Answer
Answer no new HIV virus particle would be produced after transfecting T cell with HIV RNA because when HIV enters into cell it have coat protein which protect RNA from degradation as reverse transcriptase initially make DNA that integrate into human genome and then HIV particle forms but in this condition the RNA will get degrade easily and no HIV virus particle would be seen.
