Explanation / Answer

1. asexual reproduction is rare in animals because asexual reproduction gives rise to genetically identical clones, low genetic diversity, making animals susceptible to extinction upon any disease manifestation.

2. sexual reproduction:

advanatages: provides high genetic variability, adaptation, speeds up evolution

disadvantages: high energy cost, courtship is time consuming, alltruism- usually sacrifices the fitness of one sex to the other

asexual reproduction:

advantages: saves energy, courtship is not an issue, fitness of an individual is increased.

disadvantages: low genetic variability, adaptation is low, retards evolution

3. Hammerhead sharks produce asexually through parthenogenesis,

Hymnoptera show polyembrynoy where the fertilised egg in its later stages split to form clones

4. Oviparous animals lay eggs

Advantages: reduced gestation periods, independent development

Viviparous animals are born from alive from mothers womb
