Question
Figure 3 depicts a portion of a eukaryotic gene and the RNA transcribed from the DNA. The two horizontal lines represent the two strands of DNA. The dashed line represents the primary transcript and the boxes on the dashed line represent exons. The lettered arrows designate locations on the DNA (A-F) and/or on the primary transcript (B-E). Use location A, B, C, D, E or F to answer questions
1) The sequence AAUAAA most likely is found at
A) A
B) B
C) C
D) D
E) E
F) F
Which location contains the sequences that provide the cap site for the primary transcript?
A) A
B) B
C) C
D) D
E) E
F) F
Which of the two DNA strands (solid lines) is the template strand for transcription?
A) The top strand
B) The bottom strand
C) The dashed line
B C ATATExplanation / Answer
answer to above question :
first part -site E is most likely to have the sequence AAUAAA , in which AAUAAA ,(underlined UAA )acts as a stop codon and the transcription terminates there.
second part :since the cap in eukaryotic dna is present at the 5' end of primary mRNA . so , here cap site will be present at location B.
third part: the dna strand having TATA box , which is present in the promoter sequence , behaves as a template strand , because TATA box is recognised by the Rna polymerase and further transcription is carried out in the 5' to 3' direction.
