these questions are self explanatory, but can someone help me just answer these so I can make sure I did them correctly? THANKS

QUESTIONS

Put the diffraction grating in front of your eye and look around. What do you see? Describe the appearance of the room lights. (Explain!)

What would happen to the interference pattern if you increase the slit spacing of the diffraction grating? Why?

A student uses a laser and a double-slit apparatus to project a two-point source of light interference pattern onto a blackboard located 5.87 meters away. The distance measured between the central bright band and the fourth bright band is 8.21 cm. The lines are separated by a distance of 0.150 mm. What would be the measured wavelength of light?

Explanation / Answer

when you see the light through grating, you can see many colors.
==================================================================

when we increases the slit spacing fringe width decreses.

fringe width = lamda*R/d

here lamda is wavelength, R is distance between screeen and slits and d is the slit spacing.

=========================
distance between cetrla bright band to 4th bright band = 4*lamda*R/d

8.21*10^-2 = 4*lamda*5.87/(0.15*10^-3)

==> lamda = 8.21*10^-2*0.15*10^-3/(4*5.87)

= 5.245*10^-7 m or 524.5 nm
