Danish Prison and Probation Service carries out judicial sentences and helps in rehabilitation offenders . It runs on a meagre budget of US$ 525 mn. Hence, It becomes paramount for them to reduce the overall cost. Hence, It was very important for management of DPPS to understand the behaviours of cost and its impact on overall performance. Keeping that in mind they approached SAS, and SAS helped them in developing cost and profitability model based on Activity based costing system. The cost was distributed to primary activities and was visible to the management. The ABC system brought visibility to the major cost DPPS incurs such as salaries, buildings. It also brought the attention towards important activities that DPPS does in term of cost incurred. DPPS management now has better visibility of the cost driver, various important activities and now they can mobilize their resources in a better way as previously. They can adhere themselves to not incur extra cost on less important activities thus It will help them in better spending the money. SAS has helped in this project to DPPS and also provided them enough knowledge of its usage, they added more functions and users in it. Now DPPS can better focus on less value added activity and value added activity and can plan its resources well.
