1)As per the order 2 BC media bottle are required to complete this test.
2)2 BC sample can be collected at the same time but at 2 different venipuncture site.
3)Strictly Aseptic non touch technique has to be followed to collect the sample. First skin has to be decontaminated with antiseptic solution like 70percent isopropyl alcohol. Then using sterile gloves by non touch technique blood sample to be collected.10 ml of blood is generally required for BC.2 samples can be done back to back so that antibiotics can be started as early as possible.
4)The blood culture collection cannot be done from a previously inserted heplock in right forearm if freshly inserted by the time the phlebotomist can ask to collect one sample from here and other has to be given a puncture at different site probably other hand.
