When you examine them, you notice that one of the men has a white coating covering the mucous membranes of his mouth. Both men have a long history of alcoholism and drug abuse. When observing a smear made from the coating on the tongue, you were able to determine what was causing this condition. a. A. The condition described by the white coating on the tongue is known as Oral Thrush or Oral Candidiasis.

B. The infectious organism that cause the Oral Thrush is Yeast that is Candida Albicans.

It is the most common oral fungal infection.

C. According to condition they both are Alcoholics and drug abuse.

In long term drug abuse and Alcoholics mostly have the problem of Fatigue, weight loss and general mailase specially in poor peoples.

In one of them have the Oral Thrush and other not have, the causes may be Immunological suppression, lack of oral hygiene, age more than 60 years, Asthma Patient, Using dentures etc.will be the reasons to have oral Thrush in that patient.

D. Treatment

The treatment of oral Thrush is mainly anti fungal medications.

Example- For mild Infection Clotrimazole

For Moderate to sever Fluconazole or Itraconazole

If patient using dentures then disinfect the dentures along with the antifungal therapy.

Use Chlorhexidine oral rinses to control the problem.

And maintain the personal and oral hygiene to prevent the problem.
