In contrast, federal systems allow first-order civil divisions to have some autonomy, while the central government maintains authority over some areas. Federal government

-There can be inefficiency in the system of governance due to diversity of law and administration

-It is very expensive

-There is always a conflict between national and state interest.

-Suitable for countries with diversity of colour,creed,race,relegion.

-Division of power ensures that local needs are med.

-Reduces the responsibilities of the central government.

-States can enjoy independent rights.

Unitary government

-There central government is vested with excessive power which it can misuse

-Can be inefficient because of the burden of work

-Avoids local needs because reach is limited of the government.

-Strong central government because it excercises all the power.

-Less expensive and simple

-Can easily adapt to changing social and economic needs

-Suitable for small states
