Explanation / Answer
2 National Patient Safety Goals:
1) Improve the accuracy of patient identification:
- This can be done by putting a wrist band with proper barcode on it clearly mentioning patient's name, Hospital In patient (IP) no. , DOA, Age, sex.
- Wrist band should be checked throughly before-
• administering Medication or blood products.
• collection of blood or body fluid sample
• providing treatment or procedure.
2) Improve the safety of using medications:
- Label all Medication, medication boxes coming under High alert medication, LASA, etc.
- Report any allergies to any medication, document it & also in EHR which will provide safety for the patient at once as it will get communicated to all health care providers.
- Putting a allergy wrist band will also notify and reduce the likelihood of patient's harm.
