Question

why has popular understanding of pre-Columbian America been so heavily misunderstood? Certainly, your readings show that long before Europeans arrived, Native Americans had built a vast and complex social and trade network consisting of hundreds of cultures across the continent, but this idea remains largely untaught. Why? This question is broad and open to interpretation. Do your best to tell me why it is you think that people largely continue to believe America was “without history” before Europeans arrived.

Explanation / Answer

Actually, the pre-Columbain American history was not properly propagated which led to misunderstanding that they have no historic civilization.

Yes, pre-Columbain period native American history, civilization and trade was in comparison with other parts of the World at that time. European occupation and colonization ruined actual civilization of the native Americans and Europeans not interested to bring their great history to public. Because of this the rest of the World not aware anything about the native Americans.

The Europeans occupancy of North America after so many wars and its ruling killed most of the native Americans. Initial period, Europeans made them as salves, robbed their properties and killed them. Because of this native American population is now at the edge of extinction. Similar thing has happened in Australia where Aboriginal population is about to extinct.

But the Maya civilization, the pyramids, monumental architecture, earthworks, cities and complex societal hierarchies indicate native Americans have great civilization and history. The trade flourished during the period. Some of the Kingdoms were very powerful and that period witnessed many wars.

They have great stories and culture. They have mined gold and made many articles. Europeans went there to steal their gold and in turn killed them, occupied their land imposed their rule. So without doubt we can say that native Americans have great history and civilization. But what they not have is power to rule their own land made them as extinctable race. Now in the modern world all of us help them to give their rights and bring them up at par with other human beings.
