Question
I calculated and am not sure where I made a error as the answer is incorrect, unless it is caused by the negative answer and maybe it should be positive, my work shows otherwise. Help.
(Just realized - are my limits backwards??? So used to the larger number on top and the question indicates B as 4.0 and A as 6.0)
A conducting sphere with radius 2.0mm has a uniform surface charge density of 0.040 C/m^2. What is the potential difference VB-VA between point B, 4.0 m from the center of the sphere and point A, 6.0 m from the center of the sphere?
I calculated as follows and used q=nA=(0.040)(4pi(0.002m)^2) (I wasn't able to edit my equation below but the following part should read -8.99*10^9 with a positive 9 exponent)
Please let me know where I went wrong. Thanks!
Explanation / Answer
Solution :
= 9 x 10^9 Nm^2/c^2x A x sigma C x (1/4- 1/6)
=1507.2
