Question

1. An object with a height of 42 cm is placed 2.2 m in front of a concave mirror with a focal length of 0.45 m. Find the location and magnification of the image produced by the mirror, using the mirror and magnification equations.

d=_________m

M=_________

2. An object with a height of 42 cm is placed 2.3 m in front of a convex mirror with a focal length of -0.57 m. Find the location and magnification of the image produced by the mirror using the mirror and magnification equations.

If you could show your work that would be awesome! Thank you!!

d = m M =

Explanation / Answer

An object is placed at a distance do = 2.2 m

focal length f = 0.45 m

a ) 1/ f = 1/ di +1/ do

1 / 0.45 m = 1/ di + 1/ 2.2 m

distance of the image is di = 0.57 m

------------------------------------

magnification of the image is m = - di / do

= - 0.57 m / 2.2 m

= -0.259 m

-----------------------------------------------------

b)The mirror equation is

1/f = 1/p + 1/q

1/-0.57 = 1/2.3 + 1/q

q = -0.457 m   (image is in back of the mirror)

----------------------------------

The magnification = -q/p

M = -(-0.457) / (2.3)

M = 0.199
