Question

General question about Crystal Violet Reaction. (Decomposition of CV with hydroxide ion).

I'm not sure how to set this up, generally. What is this asking me to do?

(I am not providing data because I just want the idea)

1. Justify that the reaction was run under pseudo-order conditions, i.e., that [OH] is a constant during the reaction: Using Trial 1 concentrations, show that the concentration of hydroxide ions did not change significantly when half of the crystal violet has been consumed. The molar mass of crystal violet is 408.00 g/mol.

Explanation / Answer

Its very simple dear, you are just supposed to show the OH- ion concentration is constant overall he reaction. For that purpose whatever may be your reaction mixture you carry on the reaction and meanwhile at evry regular interval of time be calculating th OH- concentration by any method.. But i would suggest u to take the known amount of reaction mixture and titrate it against any standard acid solution with phenolphthalein as an indicator and calculate the normality of OH- ion by the equation N1V1=N2V2.. thank you
