Question
Windshield wiper motor park operation is controlled by the body control module (BCM) using an input from the park switch within the wiper motor assembly The BCM monitors the wndshield wiper motor park switch circuit to determine if the windshield wiper blades are at the bottom of the glass While in the park position the park switch will open and the park cicuait will be puled up to batery voltage by the BCM. The circuit will be pulled to ground by the wiper motor park switch while the windshield wiper motor is operating When the wiper switch is turned to the OFF posution while the wiper motor is somewhere in mid-cydle, the BCM will continue to operate the motor until the wipers reach the park postion if the ignition is turned OFF while the wipers are in mid-cyde, the wipers wi stop immediately where they are The BCM will park the wipers the next time the igntion is turned ON The wipers will not park when they are commanded ON and OFF with a scan tool. The BCM wil park the wipers the next tme the wiper swiatch is tumed ON ond OFF wiper meter is stalled, and will de-energize the wiper relay until the wiper switch is cycled OFF and ON aganExplanation / Answer
The body control module (BCM) uses an input from the park switch within the motor assembly to control the operation of windshield wiper motor park. To find whether the windshield wiper blades are at bottom of the glass windshield wiper motor park switch circuit is monitored is monitored by BCM. BCM will open park switch and the park circuit is pulled to battery voltage ib the park position. When the windshield wiper motor is operating the wiper motorpark switch pulls the circuit to ground. BCM continues to operate the motor till the wiper reaches the park position if the wiper switch is turned OFF and the wiper motor is somewhere in mid cycle. The wipers are stopped immediately where they are evn in mid cycle position when the ignition is turned OFF. When next time the ignition is turned ON then the wipers are parked by the BCM.
When the scan tool commands ON and OFF the wipers are not parked. When next time wiper switch is turned ON and OFF then the wipers are parked by the BCM.
By monitoring the park switch the BCM provides stall protection for the wiper motor. BCM assumes that wiper motor is stalled and will de-energize the wiper relay unit until the wiper switch is cycled OFF and ON again if the park switch not transitions for 3 seconds while the wipers rae operating.
