Question

The drawing shows three different resistors in two different circuits. The battery has a voltage of V = 23 V, and the resistors have resistances of R1 = 50.0 ?, R2 = 25.0 ? and R3 = 10.0 ?. Determine the current through and the voltage across each resistor.

The drawing shows three different resistors in two different circuits. The battery has a voltage of V = 23 V, and the resistors have resistances of R1 = 50.0 ?, R2 = 25.0 ? and R3 = 10.0 ?. Determine the current through and the voltage across each resistor.

Explanation / Answer

a) Rnet = R1+R2+R3 = 50 + 25 + 10 = 85 ohms

i = V/Rnet = 23/85 = 0.27 A

current through, R1, R2 and R3 = 0.27 A

b)

current through R1, i1 = V/R1 = 23/50 = 0.46 A

current through R2, i2 = V/R2 = 23/25 = 0.92 A

current through R3, i3 = V/R3 = 23/10 = 2.3 A
