Question
Hi,
I am having trouble answering the following physics question.
The following figure shows a graph of V versus x in a region of space. The potential is independent of y and z.
a)
What is Ex at x=?2m?
Express your answer to two significant figures and include the appropriate units.
b)
What is Ex at x=0m?
Express your answer to two significant figures and include the appropriate units.
c)
What is Ex at x=2m?
Express your answer to two significant figures and include the appropriate units.
Any help you can provide would be very much appreciated.

What is Ex at x=2m? Express your answer to two significant figures and include the appropriate units.Explanation / Answer
Electric Field is defined as the derivative of voltage.
Therefore,
Ex = dV/dx
(a) Ex at x = -2m is slope of V curve at x = -2
Thus, Ex = (0-(-10))/(-3-(-1)) = -5V/m
(b) Ex at x = 0m is slope of V curve at x = 0
Thus, Ex = (10-(-10))/(1-(-1)) = 10V/m
(c) Ex at x = 2m is slope of V curve at x = 2
Thus, Ex = (10-0)/(1-3) = -5V/m
