Question
A simple pendulum with a period T = 2.00 s is attached to the ceiling of an elevator which is initially at rest. Calculate the period of oscillations when the elevator begins to accelerate upwards with acceleration a = 1.00 m/s2.
Calculate the period of oscillations when the elevator accelerates downwards with acceleration a = 2.50 m/s2.
If you could provide an explanation as well that would be much appreciated. Points will be awarded for the correct answer with an accompanying explanation. Thanks!
Explanation / Answer
T = 2? ?( L / g )
When the elevator is at rest:
2= 2 ??( L / 9.8 )
L = 1 m
When the elevator is accelerating upwards at 1 m/s
