I need answer for question 4 and 5

11-03 Two Loop RC Circuit #2 A circuit is constructed with four resistors, one capacitor, one battery and a switch as shown. The values for the resistors are: R1 R2 46 2, R3 117 2 and R4 107 Q. The capacitance is C-32 uF and the battery voltage is V 12 V. The positive terminal of the battery is indicated with a +sign. 1) The switch has been open for a long time when at time t 0, the switch is closed. What is 14(0), the magnitude of the current through the resistor R4 just after the switch is closed? 0.064 A Submit 2) What is , the charge on the capacitor after the switch has been closed for a very long time? 166.4 HC Submit 3) After the switch has been closed for a very long time, it is then opened. What is Qltopen), the charge on the capacitor at a time topen-582 s after the switch was opened? 148.83 HC Submit

Explanation / Answer

4] When the switch is closed, the capacitor initially acts like a short (as though no capacitor is present) and so the current through the capacitor will essentially be the current through R2.

equivalent resistance of R2 and R3 is:

R = [(1/117) + (46)]-1 = 33.018 ohms

this is in series with R1 and so, the equivalent resistance of the circuit will be:

Req = 33.018 + 46 + 107 = 186.018 ohms

the current in the circuit will then be: i = 12/186.018 = 0.06451 A

Voltage across R2 is:

VR2 = 12 - 0.06451(46+107) = 2.123 volts

therefore, Icmax = IR2 = 2.123/46 = 0.0463 A.

5] When the switch is open, the circuit is incomplete and so the capacitor cannot discharge through any resistor. Therefore, Icmax = 0 A.
