Question

1) Explain the operation of the circuit shown in Figure. what would happen in this circuit if switch S1 were closed? (Please talk on what each individual component in the circuit are for and the way they effect the operation of the circuit.) 40 SCR D, C, 2) What would the RMS voltage on the load be if the firing angle of the SCR were (a) o*, (b) 30°, (c) 90? . 3) Figure below shows a relaxation oscillator with the following parameters: (a) Sketch the voltages ve (t), volt), and volt) for this circuit. b) If R1 is currently set to 500 k, calculate the period of this relaxation oscillator. Bo R2-1500 Vpc 100 V Ri-variable 0.5 mA 4) Work on the code provided for phase angle controller and plot firing angle vs RMS voltage and plot load voltage wave forms for 30 and 120 degree firing angle 5) What firing angle would be required to supply a voltage of 100 Vms to the load. Show that on the firing angle vs RMS voltage plot. Use matlab solve function to verify your answer. C-10pF

Explanation / Answer

1). In the given circuit, the input is being given to the output circuit with the help of a transformer by changing its voltage level. During positive half of the input diode D1 will be on and during the negative half, diode D2 will be on. This arrangement gives the configuration of full wave rectifier. Capacitors are used to reduce the ripples of the voltage waveform. A transistor is used to provide the gate signal for the SCR. If the switch was closed then the current flowing through the transistor reduces. So more input current was have been required to turn ON the SCR.
