Let student buys X chips.
Defect 5%.
Undefected = 95 % of X
To have 90 % probability of having 8 chips = 0.9 x 8
Undefected Chips = 0.9 x 8
95 % of X = 0.9 x 8
X = 0.9 x x/0.95
= 7.57
Sine X can't be fraction and probability can be graeter than 90% . So, we choose next whole number , hence X = 8.
Thus the student should buy 8 chips to have greater than 90% probability of having enough chips for the circuit.
