Study the ladder logic program in, and answer the questions that follow:

a. What type of counter has been programmed?

b. When would output O:2/0 be energized?

c. When would output O:2/1 be energized?

d. Suppose your accumulated value is 24 and you lose ac line power to the controller. When power is restored to your controller, what will your accumulated value be?

e. Rung 4 goes true and while it is true, rung 1 goes through five false-to-true transitions of rung conditions. What is the accumulated value of the counter after this sequence of events?

f. When will the count be incremented?

g. When will the count be reset?

Ladder logic program -CTU Rung 1 CU COUNT-UP COUNTER Counter Preset Accumulated C5:1 0 C5:1/DN O:2/0 Rung 2 C5:1/DN O:2/1 Rung 3 --/E I:1/2 C5:1 Res Rung 4

Explanation / Answer

a) Count Up Counter ( CTU ) has been programmed.

b) When the preset CTU value become equal to the CTU preset value the output DN will become energized and rung 2 becomes true and will energize output O:2/0.

c) Whenever rung 1 os false then rung 3 will stay true and thus output will be O:2/1 will be energized.

d) 24 if the PLC is a retentive memory type else the value will be 0 because if its not retentive then it would be a non retentive type and this type would not keep the value during a power cycle.

e) 0, because the counter is reset by closing I:1/2. this makes rung 4 true which in turn resets the accumulated value to 0.

f) 10
