Question

16.A  6.00 kg block in contact with a 4.00 kg block on a horizontal frictionless surface as seen below. The 6.00 kg block is being pushed by a horizontal 20.0N force. What is the magnitude of the force that the 6.00 kg block exerts on the 4.00 kg block

17, You push doward on a box at an angle of 25 degrees with a force of 750N, If the box is on a flat horizontal surface for which the coefficient of static friction with the box is 0.76, what is the meass of the heaviest box you will be able to move?

Explanation / Answer

16) acceleration of both blocks be a

F = ma

so 20 = 10a

so a = 2 m/s^2

so force on 4kg block = ma = 4*2 = 8N

so 6kg block exerts 8N on 4kg block

17) Horizontal force = 750 cos25 = 679.73 N

Vertical force = mg - 750sin25 = mg - 316.96 N

So force due to friction = uN = 0.76*(mg-316.96)

for the block to move 679.73 > 0.76*(mg-316.96)

so heaviest block that can be moved , m=123.6 kg
