Explanation / Answer

considering the direction towards right as positive and left as negative

A) in case A

Force = 2N

time = 0.5 s

acceleration = force/mass

= 2/1.2

= 1.66 m/s2

initial velocity u = 0.5m/s

final velocity = u + at

= 0.5 + 1.66 * 0.5

= 1.33 m/s towards right

B) In case B force is applied in oppposite direction

so decceleration = 2/1.2 = -1.66 m/s2

final velocity = u -at

= 0.5 - 1.66*0.5

= -0.33 m/s

final velocity is 0.33 m/s towards left

If direction towards left is taken as positive and right as negative the sign for force reverses and the process remains the same
