Question

A roller-caster vehicle has a mass of 500 kg when fully loaded with passengers (Fig P7.28) (a) If the vechile has a speed of 20.0 m/s at point A, what is the force of the track on the vehicle at this point? (b) What is the maximum speed the vehicle can have at point B in order for gravity to hold it on the track?

(b) What is the maximum speed the vehicle can have at point B in order for gravity to hold it on the track?

Explanation / Answer

a)force on the track=mg+mv^2/r

=500*(9.81+ 20^2/10)

=24905 N

b)balancing the forces,

mv^2/r=mg

or v^2/r=g

or v=(9.81*15)^0.5

or v=12.13 m/s
