The mirror is held approximately 12.0 cm from a person's face and an image is formed behind the mirror as shown in the figure to the right.

Explanation / Answer

1/f = 1/u + 1/v

as f = R/2 = 32/2 = 16 cm

and u = 12cm

so 1/v = 1/f -1/u

v = uf/u-f

v = 16*12/(12-16)

v = -48 cm

i.e image is formed at 48 cm behind the mirror
