Note that reasonable ideas may be used in determining project grades!

Describe some problems that might arise in a group project and suggest one or more strategies for dealing with those problems.

Explanation / Answer

In an article published in September 2004, in IEEE journal of project management, it was found that there are six problems that hamper the completion of projects. Jones, carried out a comparative analysis of 250 software projects, from 1994 to 2004 some of which were large whereas some were small. The large projects successfully achieved their cost and schedule estimates. It wa found that the projects which were not successful, faced six problems in general, namely, poor project planning, poor cost estimating, poor measurements, poor milestone tracking, poor change control, and poor quality control (Jones, 2004). The study revealed that planning and estimating beforehand the project starts is crucial to the successful completion of the project. One has to also continue reviewing the process all through the project. The timeline for completing the project is also crucial. Deciding on delegation of work is essential for completing the project. The efforts of each team member needs to be appreciated by the leader and time to time review of the efforts needs to be done by the leader.

As a team leader, I would appreciate that each member of the group provides contribution to the successful execution of the project. I would definitely, give the right job to the right person, so that the person does justification to the work allotted to them. In case, the members still do not participate in the work allotted to them, I would ask for their hunches. In case if as a leader I am unable to solve their hunches, I would ask for their feedback and what they would do if they faced the similar situation.

While performing in a group, disagreements and conflicts are bound to rise, using a suitable strategy, I would resolve the conflict. If I have to negotiate then I would definitely try to negotiate and get the work done. If accommodation is required, I would accommodate. This means that for resolving the conflict, suitable conflict resolution style would be adopted to deal with the persistent issue and finish off the work successfully.
