Question
ASAP. Please help, no hand writing, is difficult to read and understand. This is for System Administration Class. THANK YOU SO MUCH.
What you are going to do in this project is pretend that you are the system administrator for an organization that is attempting to determine if virtualization of its server infrastructure would be beneficial to the organization. You will prepare an executive summary of your findings as the deliverable for this project.
Normally, an executive summary summarizes a more complete accompanying report. You will not be preparing this more complete report in this project, you will only be preparing the executive summary. Normally, executive summaries do not include references, but in this case, I want you to cite two references that you used to substantiate the claims that you make in the executive summary.Note that an executive summary is different from an abstract. Abstracts tend to be most common in academic environments whereas executive summaries are primarily confined to business environments. An abstract is a brief summarizing statement which is read by people who are trying to decide whether or not to read the entire document.
An executive summary is the document in miniature which can be read in place of the longer document.
Confine your research to the area of server virtualization. We are not interested at this point in network or storage virtualization issues.
Consider the following issues in your report:
• Consolidation ratios – what is a realistic number that the organization might expect to see. What are the variables here?
• Define at least three potential benefits that the organization might achieve through server virtualization.
• Define at least two potential disadvantages that the organization needs to be aware of and their potential consequences if ignored.
Explanation / Answer
Answer:-
Server virtualization:-
Server virtualization is covering the resources of server, such as the number of individual physical servers, operating systems, processors, from the server users.
Virtual server consolidation ratio:-
Presently, the consolidation ratio of the server with which the IT administrators work with may depends. Previously the virtual server consolidation was 4 virtual machines per core. I.e. the consolidation ratio is 4:1. Given a dual processor and a quad core server, for instance, that results in 8 virtual machines per core or 8:1 consolidation ratio. These days hypervisor can support higher numbers of virtual machines per core, say 100:1, yet four virtual machines of one core is still a good one.
Three major advantages of server virtualization:
1.Enhanced disaster recovery:-
With server virtualization, the data on a server is not confined to a specific space of hardware; thereby hardware failure can’t affect the data/information. The software and information are sponsored up in multiple machines and it is much easier to access at remote location. There is a faster recovery. As the virtual machines runs on various machines, it is now possible for organizations to employ their old machines in recovery system to minimize the cost.
2. Ease IT management:-
With the server virtualization, IT management is made simpler. Maintenance of new servers is done now with few clicks of mouse using the help of VMWare. This saves substantial amount of IT workers and also eliminates manual performance of maintenance and in troubleshooting physical machines.
3. Agile business process:-
Business world changes faster and organizations need to respond accordingly. Traditional deployment requires planning, purchasing and installation of the server. 0n the other hand virtual infrastructure permits us to add new on demand virtual sewers. Also it is easier to alter the virtual resources allocated, providing businesses the capability to change based on demands.
Two potential disadvantages that an organization must be aware of
1.Security:-
The virtual server may reside on the same physical server as another organization and which could be open to security risks. It is highly recommended to learn about the service provider and how their security features are.
2.Time to learn:-
Virtual server are required to be instantiated, congured, monitored and saved. Lots of IT skills are required to work with the virtual server. Thus, an administration should be aware of whether they have the skill set to work with the virtual server environment.
