Question
Two students display their single-loop ac generators at a science fair. The generator made by student A has a loop area of 100 cm2 rotating in a magnetic field of 18 mT at 60 Hz. The one made by student B has a loop area of 65 cm2 rotating in a magnetic field of 200 mT at 120 Hz. Which one generates the largest maximum emf?
Give the emf generated by each, to justify your answer.
V (student A)
V (student B)
I am unsure of how to start this problem. I get how to find the emf but I can't get the right answer to the problem! HELP!
Please explain how your answer!
Explanation / Answer
The emf generated is given by :
Emf = 2 pi f N A B
for A ...
A = 100 cm^2 = 0.01 m^2
f = 60 hz
B = 0.018 T
N = 1
so... V( studen A) = 2*pi * 60 * 0.01 * 0.018 = 0.0678584 V
for B
A = 65 cm^2 = 0.0065 m^2
f = 120 hz
B = 0.2 T
N = 1
so... V( studen A) = 2*pi * 120 * 0.0065 * 0.2 = 0.9801769 V
so.. student B will generate more emf
