Question
1/on a straight line multiple flash photo of two balls. describe each ball's motion. does either ball pass the other? when? do they ever have the same speed? when? 2/a car accelerates from 0 to 100 Km/hr in 10s. find its acceleration. drag racers can get to 400 Km/hr from rest in 5 s. how big is this acceleration? 3/on a line that represents a multiple flash photo of falling ball. neglect air resistance. at which point, A or B, is the ball's acceleration larger? at which point is its velocity larger? point A is upper than point B on the line.Explanation / Answer
1. Can't answer without the photos. If you post the link for the photos, I'll answer the question in the comments.
2. Note that 100 km/hr = 27.78 m/s. The acceleration is defined as
(a = Delta v/Delta t = (27.78m/s - 0)/(10s - 0) = 2.78 m/s^2)
Note that 400 km/hr = 111.1 m/s. The acceleration of the drag racer is
(a = Delta v/Delta t = (111.1m/s - 0)/(5s - 0) = 22.2 m/s^2)
3. Any falling object always has one acceleration: gravitational acceleration, which is 9.81 m/s^2 pointing downwards. So at both positions the ball's acceleraiton is 9.81 m/s^2. The ball is speeding up as it moves downward, so at point B it is moving faster than at point A. HOWEVER, if the answer is dependent upon sign, and upwards is defined as positive, then B is more negative than A, thus A is larger. BE CAREFUL WITH SIGNS.
Hope this helps.
