Question
can someone help me to explain the reason for answers b through d? thank you
The figure to the right shows the velocities as a function of time of three different objects moving in'a straight line. All three graphs pass through points A and B. Order the magnitudes of the following quantities for the three different objects, starting with the smallest (a) the velocity at point B, (b) the distance traveled between A and B, (c) the acceleration at point A, and (d) the average accelerations between A and B.Explanation / Answer
b) distance is given by area under the curve . As the area under the curve 3 is greatest , so is d3 and so on c) acceleration at point A is nothing but slope of the curve at point A, as the modulus of slope of 3 is greatest so is a3 and so on d) average acceleration is given by ( final velocity - initial velocity )/ time as the modulus of final and initial velocity is same for all the 3 curves , so would be the modulus of average acceleration
