Question
At 30.6 deg C, the resistance of a segment of gold wire is 81.2 ohm. When the wire is placed in a liquid bath, the resistance decreases to 95.4 ohm. What is the temperature of the bath? The temperature coefficient of resistivity for gold is 0.0034 (deg C)^(-1) at 20 deg C. Answer in units of deg C.I realize the problem says resistance decreased but data actually shows increase. Could this change the approach? Using given data and equation R - Ro=Ro(a)(T-To) I got 82.03436685 but system says I am wrong... HELP?!?!
Explanation / Answer
R - Ro = Ro(a)(T-To) 81.2 - 95.4 = 95.4 * 0.0034 * (30.6-T0) >>>> T0 = 74.4 degC
