Question
I need a 1-2 Paragraph explanation for this:
Imagine two small, isolated tropical islands located far from the mainland that are similar in size and physical characteristics. Although the islands have been habitable for millions of years, a small population of frogs occupies only one of the islands, having appeared there 30 years previously. What are two possible reasons why the frogs colonized the one island, and only relatively recently? What factor does notappear to have prevented them from colonizing the other island?
Explanation / Answer
Answer:- It seems that as per theory Island biogeography one of the islands occupied by frogs for last 30 yrs would have been much closer to the mainland then the other island. Another reason might be easy availability of food, shelter, mate etc for these frogs on this island that facilitated its colonisation. Whereas size of island doesn’t appear to have prevented them from colonising the other island.
Thus as per island biogeography theory closer the island to the mainland greater is the chances of colonisation and larger the size of island lesser is the extinction rate.
