Question
A uniform square plate 6. m on a side has had a square piece 2. m on a side cut out of it (see the figure). The center of that piece is at x=2 m, y = 0. The center of the square plate is at x = y = 0. Find the coordinates of the center of mass of the remaining piece. x-component ( m)? y-component ( m)?
A uniform square plate 6. m on a side has had a square piece 2. m on a side cut out of it (see the figure). The center of that piece is at x=2 m, y = 0. The center of the square plate is at x = y = 0. Find the coordinates of the center of mass of the remaining piece. x-component ( m)? y-component ( m)?Explanation / Answer
Center of mass of the rest of the portion will be:-
1:- X coordinate:-
X= (M(i)*Xi)-(M(removed piece)*X(removed piece))/M(i)-M(removed piece)
Now,M(removed piece)= M(i)/9
So, X= -1/4
2:- Y coordinate:- Putting the values in the equation used above,we will find that Y= 0.
So, coordinates of center of mass of the remaining piece is (-1/4,0).
