Question

A 270mg ball is dropped from a height of 2.4m , bounces on a hard floor, and rebounds to a height of 1.9 m . The figure shows the impulse received from the floor. What is the max force exerted on the ball by the ground? So can someone give me some direction on how to solve this. I know f=ma but I don't know how to find the acceleration or am I looking at this wrong?

Explanation / Answer

Find the speeds at impact point when ball falls and when ball goes up.
use conservation of energy to calculate the velocity before it strikes the ground and after it leaves the ground.

PE = KE
mgh = 1/2 mv^2
So F= m * ( vi + vf) / 5ms
