Question

Your friend decides to show you how fast his sports car can accelerate by putting a penny on his forhead and slamming on the gas. To your surprise the penny stays on a vertical section of his forehead until your acceleration drops below a certain value as you reach your cruising speed, allowing the penny to fall into his lap.

Being a good physics student you quickly calculate the coefficient of static friction between the penny and his forehead after glancing down at his accelerometer which reads 16.9m/s^2 right before the penny starts to fall.

So what was the coefficient of static friction again?

A) 0.58 B) 0.50 C) 0.33 D) 1.7 E) Not enough information provided.

I know the answer is A, but I do not know how to do the steps. Can someone please work it out for me I greatly appreciate it.

Explanation / Answer
