Question

A position-time graph for a particle moving along the x axis is shown in the figure. The divisions along the horizontal axis represent 1.50 s and the divisions along the vertical axis represent 1.0 m.

(a) Find the average velocity in the time interval t = 4.50 s to t = 12.00 s.
.
The response you submitted has the wrong sign. m/s

(b) Determine the instantaneous velocity at t = 6.00 s (where the tangent line touches the curve) by measuring the slope of the tangent line shown in the graph.
m/s

(c) At what value of t is the velocity zero?
s

Explanation / Answer

Find the distance traveled during the time interval and divide it by the length of the time interval. Is y the location or the velocity? I'll assume it is location. In that case: y(3)=3^2-5*3+18=12 y(4)=4^2-5*4+18=14 (y(4)-y(3))/(4-3)=2/1=2
